Week 2: Anti-Gravity Yoga

Anti Gravity Yoga is awesome!  You have a hammock and they measure it to your height (to the hip joint) and you jump right in it!  Don't let it fool you, the hammock is huge and strong! Our instructor said it was made to hold up to 1000 lbs. It was also really workable.  I thought it was going to be really complicated and hard to get in and out of but it was so easy.

 Some of my favoirte poses:

  • We did a pose called womb, where you straddle your hammock and then bring the fabric out to the feet and then bring the souls of your feet together.  Your sitting inside but you are completely surrounded by the white material of the hammock.
  • Oh for the love of swinging!  We did a few poses that allowed us to actually swing on our hammocks like you would swing on the playground.  It made class fun and if felt pretty crazy.

  • With the hammock to support you we did a few inversions.  I love a good headstand, but this was even more enjoyable and it was really easy to get into and hold.

  • There was a cardio portion of class.  You don't find this often in yoga but I thought it was a great addition.

  • You actally just lay down in your hammock at the end.  The instructor came by and swung your hammock if you wanted to swing and it felt great!

I think everyone should try this class at least once.  It was a great for beginners and advanced students.  It was only $10 for the class because we took advantage of the 2 for 1 special.  You do have to sign up online because the class has a limited amount of hammocks.  It was overbooked when we went so make sure to sign up a day or 2 before you go.
